ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Department of English is one of the largest multi-campus academic departments in the University. We offer three undergraduate degree programs, two Master’s programs, an MGA program, and two PhD programs. Our First-Year Composition and Professional and Technical Communication Programs serve 12,000 students per year. With around 400 sections of courses each semester, we generate one of the most SCH for the College of Arts and Sciences. We typically employ over 150 teaching faculty every term (full time faculty, visiting faculty, adjuncts, and graduate students) across the three campuses. Our faculty members are active scholars and researchers and dedicated teachers; hold editorships of journals and book series; sit on numerous department, college, university and professional association committees. As a whole, the department is striving to achieve ongoing excellence to assist the university in meeting its strategic goals.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position supports the academic programs of the Department of English and also provides general office support. This position provides administrative coordination for our undergraduate programs by serving as a point of contact to students, prospective students, and faculty on matters related to course management and enrollment, program requirements, policies and procedures and other administrative matters. Supports student administration through assistance with course scheduling and working to circulate information on courses offered. Supports the Department and administrative functions through special projects as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Schedules classrooms, acts as liaison with Space Office for classroom-related issues; processes permits and special enrollments ; collects syllabi each semester, schedules courses in BANNER system; sends and tracks course assignments to
instructors; orders textbooks/desk copies as requested; works with instructor on grand change procedures using Canvas; works with instructors & Assistant to Chair on plagiarism and grade grievance procedures.

Schedules conference rooms; department website management; seeks out and prepares news stories for web site. Forwards news as appropriate to CAS, USF & English alumni; maintains website calendar & forwards to CAS; manages social media, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter; maintains undergraduate alumni email list. Coordinates with Graduate Program Specialist regarding graduate alumni email list & social media postings; helps prepare recruiting materials for department, programs, and courses; helps with self-study and other reports.

Assists Undergraduate Director and Associate Chair with administrative function.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

PREFERRED:

Strong communication skills.  Successful clerical experience.
