Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is looking for an experienced and qualified Spacecraft Integration and Test engineer to help lead the I&T team for a deep space mission that will tour the inner solar system and explore the asteroid belt. Launch is expected in early 2028.

LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. CU receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Support and mentor the I&T Manager in leading all aspects of the LASP Integration and Test team for the MAX Spacecraft and Observatory development.
  • Develop the overall Integration and Test schedule to support the MAX development timeline, including component need dates, process and tool need dates, GSE need dates, Payload need dates, both a Spacecraft and Observatory integration and test schedule, a launch campaign schedule, associated packing and shipping timelines, and appropriate margin to support a planetary (i.e. fixed) launch date.
  • Support the I&T Manager, the EGSE Lead, and the MGSE Lead with vendor contacts, vendor communication, RFI/RFP/SOW development, and vendor visits to support GSE delivery.
  • Support the Test Conductor Lead to put in place all tools and processes needed by the Test Conductor team.
  • Develop the overall program infrastructure plan to ensure the MAX I&T team has all GSE, tool, process, and facility needs in place, when needed.
  • Support the I&T Manager to ensure test plans and procedures satisfy system test requirements.
  • Work with the business manager and I&T teams to develop an I&T team budget.
  • Work with the Mission Operations team to develop synergies with tool/process development.
  • Develop training plans for LASP or Emirati spacecraft operators.
  • Mentor junior engineers at LASP and within our customer organization.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $126,000-164,000. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting. Relocation assistance is available per institute guidelines.

What We Require

  • At least 15 years spacecraft I&T experience on both the test conductor and management sides.
  • BS/BA or higher-level degree in engineering or applied sciences.

What You Will Need

  • Significant experience on both the spacecraft and instrument sides of I&T.
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments with ESD sensitive hardware, cranes, lifting fixtures, and pressure vessels.
  • Experience with environmental testing for space flight systems, including thermal vacuum testing, vibration testing, shock testing, and EMI/EMC testing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, but the willingness to work with new scheduling/planning tools.
  • Experience with Mission Operations (tools, processes, mindset).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to mentor.
  • Team player, willing to contribute where needed to get the job doneTravel.
  • Domestic travel required to visit subcontractors, etc. International travel required for milestone reviews, TIMs, final testing, or launch site activities (estimated two trips per year, maximum).

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Engineering Management degree.
  • Spacecraft Systems Engineering experience.
