University of Chicago USA Jobs Careers Description/Overview

The Research Professional will report to a BFI affiliated faculty member at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC), or the Harris School of Public Policy.

The Research Professional’s responsibilities will span all stages of research, including collecting data of in both tabular and spatial formats, developing algorithms that clean and organize data, conducting statistical analyses, running simulations, and preparing manuscripts and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts independent problem-solving with high-level directional advice.
  • Fully informed on the latest developments in the relevant research areas.
  • Assists Professor to identify, assess and organize information for research from academic institutions worldwide and other organizations addressing similar research goals.
  • Collaborates with research team to create and strengthen a digital platform accessible to the community of researchers.
  • Presents findings effectively and articulately at internal staff meetings and seminars/conferences.
  • Contributes essential technical content relevant to academic papers and reports in support of the program.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Advanced degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, finance, statistics, or comparable field.

Experience:

  • Prior relevant research experience, experience gained in school counts towards this qualification.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Stata, Matlab, Python, Julia, or R
  • Knowledge of C, C++, or Python

Preferred Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of research techniques and methods in relevant scientific field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
