In April 2020, our Company announced plans to consolidate our New Jersey campuses into a single New Jersey headquarters location in Rahway, NJ by 2023. Therefore, the NJ work location for this role will be temporarily based and the exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.

In alignment with our company strategy to leverage digital and data, Global Human Health (GHH) has launched the Human Health Insights, Analytics, and Data (HHIAD) organization, in support of its aspiration to become the premier data-first commercial biopharma organization by 2023. This central organization is focused on the application of data, analytics, and insights across the end-to-end commercialization process, to drive data-driven decision making, on behalf of our patients and customers.

As HHIAD continues its transformation to bring premier capabilities to Human Health, we are seeking a dynamic talent for the role of AVP, Business Engagement & Research (BER), HHIAD.

This individual will be responsible for developing and communicating data-driven and actionable insights that drive greater customer and market understanding to inform launch strategies, business development opportunities and help meet in-line commercial objectives.

The individual in this role will manage a team of business analytics engagement managers and research managers across all therapeutic areas and markets. The Business Engagement and Research group acts as a “First” point of contact for our Human Health commercial teams for all insights, data and analytics questions. The individuals in BER will quarter-back cross-functional teams for key engagements and help scope, design and syndicate well-defined projects and insights.

The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, consultative mindset, and a deep understanding of healthcare & pharma products, marketing approaches and technology. The individual also needs to have demonstrated consistently strong team leadership and stakeholder management skills. This role will require interfacing and collaborating with senior brand leaders and many cross-functional teams so strong communication skills are a must.

Individuals who will thrive in this role are motivated by developing a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical business and possess an ability to define and translate objectives and business questions into analytical problems that can be either solved by qualitative market research/ insights or by secondary analytical solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of business engagement and market research knowledge managers with 4-6 Executive Directors and Directors as direct reports plus their respective pyramids
  • Interface with credibility with SVP/VP/AVP marketing executive and brand leaders and build close and trusting relationship
  • Ability to understand stakeholders’ priorities, ask strategic questions and challenge assumptions to jointly build solutions that support business objectives
  • Ability to distill common themes in business questions and their answers across use cases and rapid insights asked by brand leaders
  • Provide holistic view whether a qualitative market research approach or a quantitative secondary data analysis approach should be pursued
  • Inform choice of appropriate analytical techniques and solutions leveraging strong understanding of pharmaceutical data landscape and primary market data vendors
  • Communicate intensively across therapeutic areas to ensure consistency in approach, problem structuring, problem solving and solution syndication
  • Keep abreast of emerging business and analytics trends in the industry
  • Set up and oversee 20+ Insights Squads with cross-functional agile working teams
  • Contribute to innovative experiments, specifically to idea generation, idea incubation and/or experimentation

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field
  • MBA or Master’s Degree preferred

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience from an adjacent role at a bio-pharma firm
  • Bring the perspective of a seasoned pharma marketing executive for both internal ways of working and industry/ market trends within the pharmaceutical space
  • Deep understanding of the commercial value chain in pharmaceuticals: Business Development, Pipeline Management, Commercial Development and launch and in-line management
  • Excellent business acumen, with proven ability to understand business processes – both at global and region/ country levels – and translate these into user stories and solutions
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to gauge whether a qualitative market research approach or a quantitative secondary data analysis approach should be pursued
  • Executive-level writing skills to clearly articulate analytics and research solutions
  • Excellent organizational skills, with ability to navigate a complex matrix environment and organize/prioritize work efficiently and effectively
  • Proven leadership and influencing skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and lead with diverse groups of work colleagues and positively manage ambiguity

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with healthcare data sources and advanced analytics approaches to solving commercial pharmaceutical business questions
